The spill, which authorities said was caused by a blockage in a manhole, started at 7:30 a.m. and was brought under control at 9 a.m. when crews from the USMC Camp Pendleton facilities maintenance department removed the blockage. None of the sewage was recovered so all 7,500 gallons Advertisement Signs warning of sewage contamination are posted at the Santa Margarita River outlet southwards to include the entire Camp Del Mar Beachline at Camp Pendleton and will remain in place until samples confirm the water is safe for recreational use. For updates on beach closure information please call the 24-hr. hotline at (619) 338-2073 or visit www.sdbeachinfo.com. 6 comments
good news for Fallbrook; it was downstream. Sorry Pacific Ocean.
That sucks. This river is fun to hike.
Well, I guess the frogs will be growing 6 legs in the future.
I'm sure 7,500 gallons is nothing compared to what our neighbors to the south pump into the Pacific.
There was no poop vaccuum to suck it up???
Any sewage spill is frowned upon for obvious reasons. At least by me. Compared to the amount in the link I provided below, 7500 gallons is relatively small. The link is about the "Christmas time spill" which occurred in Temecula and involved the Murrieta Creek. The Murrieta Creek just happens to drain into the Santa Margarita River. http://www.myvalleynews.com/story/44260/ |
