Thursday, November 12th, 2009.
Issue 46, Volume 13.

Our Fallbrook area is being threatened by the development of an enormous open pit mine at the I-15 entrance/exit to Rainbow. This mine site is a prized piece of California with many attributes we need to preserve:

1. It is the last remaining wildlife corridor between the Santa Ana and Palomar mountains.

2. It is in the Riverside County Multiple Species Habitat Conservation Plan.

3. The Santa Margarita River flowing through it is the last free-flowing river in Southern California, has the purest water around and is a water source for Camp Pendleton.

4. The air quality at the Santa Margarita Ecological Reserve bordering the mine site is measured and used as a standard for healthy unpolluted air.

5. The ecological reserve is the home for important Advertisement

research, including earthquakes and wildfires.

6. This site is the sacred birthplace of the Pechanga Indian Nation.

Aggregate is very plentiful but pure air, pure water, pristine landscape, wildlife corridors, ecological reserves sponsoring important research and sacred lands are rare in this very developed land of southern California.

The site Granite Construction has chosen for Liberty Quarry is the wrong place for an open-pit mine that will change the landscape and our quality of life forever.

Please help save this land. Do not let it be obliterated, raped and ruined forever.

Before November 23, write Riverside County Planning Department concerning DEIR No. 475, Attn: David L. Jones, 4080 Lemon St., 9th floor, PO Box 1409, Riverside, CA 92502-1409, or e-mail him at libertyquarry@rctlma.org.
