Homecoming is often recognized as a very special occasion. Sure enough, on October 10, the Fallbrook varsity football team gave the fans what they wanted: a victory over the Rancho Buena Vista (RBV) Longhorns.

It was Warrior Kameron Drawhorn’s first game of the season due to an earlier collarbone injury. He played as a key catalyst in the 21-18 triumph over RBV.

The game began with the Longhorns receiving the ball. They failed to convert on a third down and were forced to punt. The Warriors took over the ball but gave up possession after a turnover on downs.

The defense held the Longhorns to another punting situation. The Warriors quickly gained two first downs, setting up a five-yard touchdown run by Mitchell Salazar.

RBV’s next possession ended in a blocked field goal attempt. However, the missed kick pinned Fallbrook near their goal line. The Warriors fumbled the ball, costing them a safety.

After the safety punt, the Longhorns seemed to have gained complete momentum as they ran 79 yards for a touchdown. However, the score was erased due to a RBV penalty. The Warrior defense held them to a fourth down situation, leading 7-2 at the end of the first quarter.

A Longhorn punt started the second quarter. Soon after, Fallbrook turned the ball over on downs once again.

Youngren Construction Inc. a fumble and recovered the ball to bring back their offense. This set up an 11-yard touchdown pass from Michael Welsh to Marquis Sumpter.

During their next possession, the Longhorns were forced to punt once again. Later, a Fallbrook fumble led to a RBV field goal. At halftime, the Warriors led 14-5.

The third quarter began with punts by both teams. On Fallbrook’s ensuing drive, Kameron threw a 21-yard touchdown pass to Marquis.

"It was a team effort and we came out here and executed," said Kameron.

The Warriors led 21-5 at the end of the third quarter.

In the fourth quarter, RBV made a strong attempt for a comeback. They opened with a touchdown pass to cut the deficit to 10 points. They scored with three minutes remaining to find themselves down by only a field goal.

Fallbrook successfully received the following onside kick. However, the Longhorns regained possession with under a minute left in regulation time. The Warrior defense sacked RBV on consecutive plays to lock up the victory.

"I’m very happy to get the win for homecoming and for our players," said Fallbrook coach Joe Silvey after the game. "I think we got things moving in the right direction."

The Warriors’ next game will be at San Pasqual, where they will play the Eagles on October 17.
