Bikers to Ride for Children of Fallen Heroes

Friday, March 24th, 2006
Issue 12, Volume 10.

FALLBROOK — Hundreds of motorcycles will rumble through downtown Fallbrook, Old Town Temecula and the scenic highways of North San Diego County on Saturday April 8 to help Bikers For Education (BFE) raise money for youth education and the children of soldiers who sacrificed life or limb for America.

An all-day event, the 2nd Annual BFE Ride & Rally begins with breakfast and blessing of bikes at St. Peter’s School in Fallbrook, continues with a Poker Run ride of 90 miles, and concludes with a rally at Bates Nut Farm in Valley Center. At the rally, bikers will enjoy a BBQ lunch, beer garden, live music by local artist Kevin Moyles and his band "Ruthless", more than 200 raffle prizes and free door prizes, an auction, vendors of all kinds, a magic show and a best bike contest.

The Poker Run ride – coordinated by volunteers from the Black Sheep Motorcycle Ministry – has a prize of $1,000 cash to the biker with the best hand. In addition to food, entertainment and door prizes, each biker gets a free commemorative event T-shirt and ride pin for their donation.

"Last year we raised more than $25,000, so we hope to raise even more this year," said Matthew J. Downey, Founder and Chairman of Bikers For Education and the BFE Ride & Rally. "This event is a great opportunity for bikers to enjoy a fun day of riding while supporting a very worthwhile cause."

Proceeds from the 2nd Annual BFE Ride & Rally will benefit the Freedom Alliance Scholarship Fund (http://www.freedomalliance.org/scholarship.htm) which provides educational scholarships to the children of those who served in the Armed Forces and sacrificed life or limb for America. Freedom Alliance, a 501(c)3 educational and charitable foundation, was founded in 1990 by Lt. Col. Oliver L. North, who now serves as the honorary chairman.

"Through this fund we not only help the children of our fallen heroes pay for college but also let them know that the sacrifices Advertisement

their parents made will never be forgotten by their fellow Americans," said North.

Last year, business sponsors who contributed $500 up to $2,500 in cash or products and services included Anderson Direct Marketing of San Diego, California QuickThrottle Magazine, Albertsons of Fallbrook, Countrywide Home Loans, Biggs Harley-Davidson of San Marcos and Oceanside, Jim’s Sign Shop of Fallbrook, Pala Mesa Resort of Fallbrook, Ralph Bettencourt State Farm Insurance of Encinitas, Carl’s Jr. / M&N Foods LLC of San Marcos, Joe’s Car Studio of Fallbrook, Kenneth Rexrode of Peppertree Realty in Fallbrook, Staples Inc., and Quaid Harley-Davidson of Temecula. More than 40 additional local businesses were sponsors at a lower contribution level by donating cash, gift certificates and items for the raffle. For their contributions, all business sponsors will receive recognition on the event web site as well as on banners, take-home materials and posters during the event.

Downey said he and his team of volunteers are working hard to prepare for the event, but they desperately need more business sponsors and private donations to help pay for expenses.

"It costs a lot of money to hold a fundraising event like the BFE Ride & Rally," said Downey. "We need more help to pay for things like food, beverages, event insurance, advertising, door prizes and other critical items."

Bikers can register for the event and donations can be made online at www.BFERIDE.com or by calling (760) 583-1919.
