FALLBROOK — Black History Month has presented wonderful opportunities for Zion Lutheran School students to learn about black history through art.

Third grade students drew famous musicians such as Dizzie Gillespie, Fats Domino, Duke Ellington, Louis Armstrong and Ray Charles while learning about their impact on American society. The students used oil pastels to show movement and rhythm invoked by jazz music.

Fourth and seventh grade students created papier-mâché African masks.

Fifth-graders read a legend about a clever village hat seller. They finished off by Advertisement

drawing the hat seller with their own style and flair.

This was all in effort to learn more about African-American ancestry. The artwork is now on display in the foyer of the school.

Zion is now looking for volunteers to help fifth and eighth grade students sew an American quilt. Those interested may e-mail Anny Ashbrook at aashbrook@zlcs.org. It is hoped to have one adult p er two students for a one-hour commitment. The project will take place next week.
