Friday, May 12th, 2006. Issue 19, Volume 10. The San Diego Hall of Champions conveyed a Prep Star of the Month Award for March 2006 to Fallbrook High School baseball player James Borges. Borges, a senior, helped lead the Warriors to a 10-0 start which enabled Fallbrook to reach the #1 ranking for all divisions in the calhisports.com state poll. Ironically, Borges is adjusting to a new position; he moved from second base to third base so that all-CIF third baseman Erik Castro could play second base due to an injury. Borges had never previously played third base, but he still managed to close out March with a .615 batting average, with 16 hits in 26 at-bats, along with 19 runs batted in, 14 runs scored, and five home runs. "James is an outstanding student and an outstanding athlete," said Fallbrook High Advertisement Borges’ mother, Janice Borges, and stepfather, Gary Stepan, both work at the high school. James Borges’ off-field activities include the high school’s morning news show which provides announcements to the school. "James is real active on campus," Hayek said. "He’s just an all-around good kid with a great future." Borges was one of seven athletes earning Prep Star of the Month honors for March. Five of those were honored for post-season accomplishments in winter sports: St. Augustine boys soccer player Servando Carrasco, Horizon boys basketball player Marquise Carter, Santana girls basketball player Jordan Franey, La Jolla Country Day girls soccer player Ali Hawkins, and Poway wrestler Todd Schaurien. Mission Hills softball player Whitney Orellana also received a Star of the Month for March.
